Classes for Families & Children
Prenatal V Class: American Heart Association CPR for Family & Friends—$5
Aug. 3, 6 p.m.
This class teaches adult, child and infant CPR and preventing common injuries and choking.
Car Seat Fitting Station—Free
Certified child passenger safety technicians are available by appointment to install child passenger safety seats and boosters and provide instruction to ensure the safe transport of children of all ages.

Body Beautiful I Class: Puberty—Free
Aug. 5, 6 p.m.
This class is designed for girls (grades 4-5) and a parent/guardian to discuss the
physical and emotional changes that occur in adolescent girls.
Prepared Childbirth—$40
Aug. 14, 9 a.m.
This 7-hour class covers the stages of labor and how to prepare for each. Participants learn and practice various coping techniques for labor and delivery.

CPR and First Aid Classes
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR—$20 (for medical professionals)
Aug. 5, 5 p.m.
Sept. 2, 5 p.m.
This American Heart Association class is designed for health care providers. It provides a lecture on cardiovascular health and risk factors; and demonstrations of American Heart Association basic life support techniques for choking victims, rescue breathing and CPR for adults, children, and infants. Participants are introduced to and participate in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Participants must successfully complete manikin check off, AED simulation and a written exam in order to successfully complete this certification. (Minimum 4 hours)
American Heart Association Heartsaver AED CPR Class—$15 (for the layperson)
Aug. 19, 5 p.m.
This class incorporates demonstrations of the American Heart Association’s lifesaving techniques for choking, rescue breathing and CPR for adults, children, and infants. Participants are introduced to and participate in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Participants must successfully complete manikin check off and AED simulation in order to successfully complete this certification. (Minimum 4 hours)
American Red Cross Standard First Aid Class—$25
Sept. 9, 5 p.m.
A certified instructor will train individuals to become familiar with how to recognize and care for victims of illnesses and sudden emergencies. Upon proper demonstration of all skills outlined in the course and passage of a written test, participants will receive a card signifying successful completion. (Minimum 4 hours)
The American Heart Association (AHA) strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the Association.

Group Living with Affective Disorders Support Group

This support group is designed for individulas of all ages of citizens experiencing anxiety disorders, mental illness, post-traumatic, OCD, and bipolar conditions. Meetings are held weekly.
La Leche League Support Group
Aug. 3, 6 p.m.
Sept. 7, 6 p.m.
This support group is designed for mothers who want to breastfeed their babies. It provides a forum for the sharing of information and mutual encouragement while complementing the professional medical care of each mother and baby. Meetings are held monthly.
Diabetes Support Group
Aug. 4, 6 p.m. “Be Sweet to Your Feet”
Sept. 7, 3 p.m. “Fun Fall Fitness Exercises”
This support group is designed for those with diabetes, along with their family members and friends, to share experiences, motivate each other, energize their outlook and renew their commitment. The group is facilitated by North Oaks Diabetes Education, which has
been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for Quality
Self-management Education. Meetings are held monthly.
Northlake Area Transplant Support Group
Aug. 5, 7 p.m.
Sept. 2, 7 p.m.
This support group is designed for individuals, who have had or are waiting for an organ transplant, and their loved ones. Meetings are held monthly.
Families Touching Families—Filling the Gap Meeting
Aug. 7, 10 a.m.
Aug. 21, 10 a.m.
This support group is designed for children who are separated from their parents due to
incarceration, divorce, separation or disaster situations. Meetings are held twice a month.
Connection Peer Support Group (NAMI)
Aug. 9, 6:30 p.m.
This support group is designed for adults suffering from a mental illness of any diagnosis as well as family members. It offers a casual and relaxed approach to sharing the challenges and successes of coping with mental illness. Each group session is led by trained individuals who are also in the recovery process. Meetings are held monthly.

Upcoming Special Events

Body Contouring after Weight Loss Seminar—Free
Aug. 18, 6-7 p.m.
General Surgeon Jonathan E. Weiler, MD, who is board-certified in general surgery, will provide information and answer questions on Body Contouring after weight loss. By attending the seminar, participants will gain a basic understanding of surgery options offered and which one is right for them. The seminar will be held at the E. Brent Dufreche Conference Center, located within North Oaks Diagnostic Center on the North Oaks Medical Center Campus.
