Classes for Families & Children
Prenatal I Class: Families Under Construction—Free
July 8, 6 p.m.
This class focuses on preparing your home for your newborn, pregnancy anatomy, true and false labor, as well as hospital procedures.
Super Sitter—Free
July 9, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
July 16, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
July 23, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
This class explores the responsibilities involved in babysitting, including basic
first aid techniques, abdominal thrust and CPR for children and infants.
Car Seat Fitting Station—Free
Certified child passenger safety technicians are available by appointment to install child passenger safety seats and boosters and provide instruction to ensure the safe transport of children of all ages.

Breastfeeding Class—Free
July 10, 6 p.m.
This class is for parents who may be considering breastfeeding or who have already decided to breastfeed their baby. Topics include positioning the baby properly, nutrition, pumping and storing breastmilk, and the benefits of breastfeeding.
Prenatal II Class: Labor & Delivery—Free
July 15, 6 p.m.
This class focuses on topics, including anesthesia, the four stages of labor and delivery, as well as vaginal and cesarean births.
Prenatal III Class: Baby Care—Free
July 22, 6 p.m.
This class explores topics, such as the postpartum recovery period and caring for your newborn.
Body Beautiful I Class: Puberty—Free
July 28, 6 p.m.
This class is designed for girls (grades 4-5) and a parent/guardian to discuss the
physical and emotional changes that occur in adolescent girls.
Prenatal IV Class: Relaxation Techniques—Free
July 29, 6 p.m.
This class focuses on the many techniques available to aid the laboring mother through childbirth, such as imagery, progressive muscle relaxation, massage, various breathing techniques and position changes.
Body Basics Class—Free
August 5, 6 p.m.
This class is specially designed for boys (grades 5-8) to educate about the physical and emotional changes that occur during their adolescence. The course includes a discussion
of the physical changes using correct terminology in a respectful environment.
Prenatal V Class: American Heart Association CPR for Family & Friends—$5
August 5, 6 p.m.
This class teaches adult, child and infant CPR and preventing common injuries and choking.
Prepared Childbirth—$40
August 9, 9 a.m.
This 7-hour class covers the stages of labor and how to prepare for each. Participants learn and practice various coping techniques for labor and delivery.

CPR and First Aid Classes
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR— $20 (for medical professionals)
July 17, 5 p.m.
July 24, 5 p.m.
This American Heart Association class is designed for health care providers. It provides a lecture on cardiovascular health and risk factors; and demonstrations of American Heart Association basic life support techniques for choking victims, rescue breathing and CPR for adults, children, and infants. Participants are introduced to and participate in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Participants must successfully complete manikin check off, AED simulation and a written exam in order to successfully complete this certification. (Minimum 4 hours)
American Heart Association Heartsaver AED CPR Class— $15 (for the layperson)
July 31, 5 p.m.
This class incorporates demonstrations of the American Heart Association’s lifesaving techniques for choking, rescue breathing and CPR for adults, children, and infants. Participants are introduced to and participate in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Participants must successfully complete manikin check off and AED simulation in order to successfully complete this certification. (Minimum 4 hours)

This support group is designed for men and women to help them lose weight and keep it off. Meetings are held weekly.
Northlake Area Transplant Support Group
July 3, 7 p.m.
August 7, 7 p.m.
This support group is designed for individuals, who have had or are waiting for an organ transplant, and their loved ones. Meetings are held monthly.
This meeting is held in the North Oaks Medical Center Cafeteria.
Diabetes Support Group
July 8, 3 p.m.
August 6, 6 p.m.
This support group is designed for those with diabetes, along with their family members and friends, to share experiences, motivate each others, energize their outlook and renew their commitment. The group is facilitated by North Oaks Diabetes Education, which is recognized as a Center of Excellence in Diabetes Education by the American Diabetes Association. Meetings are held monthly.
Families Touching Families—Filling the Gap

This support group is designed for children who are separated from their parents due to incarceration, divorce, separation or disaster situations. Meetings are held monthly.
La Leche League Support Group
July 15, 6 p.m.
This support group is designed for mothers who want to breastfeed their babies. It provides a forum for the sharing of information and mutual encouragement while complementing the professional medical care of each mother and baby. Meetings are held monthly.
Tangipahoa Parish Cancer Support Group
July 17, 2 p.m.
This support group is open to all cancer patients and survivors, as well as their family members, caregivers and friends. Monthly meetings are led by North Oaks registered nurses and a licensed clinical social worker through a partnership with the American Cancer Society on the third Thursday of the month. The meeting format is designed to encourage open discussion about the issues, topics and questions of most importance to participants.
Meetings are held in the CMR Unit Conference Room at North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital.
AWAKE (Alert, Well and Keeping Energetic)
July 15, 7 p.m.
This support group is facilitated by North Oaks Sleep Disorder Center and is designed for those with a sleep disorder, along with their families and friends. AWAKE’s goal is to inform participants about new equipment as it becomes available, provide updates from national sleep disorder organizations, and address participant questions/concerns with qualified personnel. Participants are encouraged to bring their Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) equipment for pressure checks.
