Focus on Health 
The Truth About Alcohol (Grades 5-12)
This class alerts students to important facts about alcohol. Subjects include a definition of the drug, how the body reacts to it, and why young people are so vulnerable to its dangers. The program encourages students to re-examine their attitudes about alcohol and helps them understand the problems caused by alcohol abuse in others.
Body Basics (Grades 5-8, Boys)
This class is specially designed to discuss the physical and emotional changes that occur in adolescence. The course includes a discussion of the physical changes that occur using the correct terminology in a respectful environment.
Body Beautiful I (Grades 4-5, Girls)
This class is especially designed to discuss the physical and emotional changes that occur in adolescent girls. The course includes discussion, use of illustrations and proper terminology for the female body, feminine products, and feminine hygiene.
Body Beautiful II (Grades 6-9, Girls)
This presentation is geared to boosting self-esteem, dealing with emotions, and teaching young ladies how to resist peer pressure.
Breast Health / BSE (Grades 11-12, Girls)
This class provides teenage females with general information about breast cancer with an emphasis on prevention and detection. In addition to lecture and discussion, an educational video demonstrating proper self-examination techniques will be shown.
Health and Hygiene (Grades Pre-K-12)
Through visual aids and age-appropriate videos, students are made aware of the many ways germs are spread and their relation to common illnesses. Participants will be encouraged to make proper hygiene a part of their daily routine.
HIV / AIDS Awareness (Grade 7-12)
Current information of HIV and AIDS is presented in this class. Participants will obtain clarification about any misinformation or myths they may have heard about HIV/AIDS. Transmission of HIV will be discussed, as well as ways to prevent the spread of the disease.
Prenatal (Grades 9-12)
This series is for expectant teens. Fathers are encouraged and welcomed to attend with class participants. Class topics will cover:
Nutrition: A registered dietician discusses the role of proper nutrition, healthy snacking, and meal planning for a healthy pregnancy.
Families Under Construction: This portion covers preparation of the home and vehicle for the arrival of the newborn baby. Home and car seat safety are discussed. It also explores the physical and mental changes that expectant mothers may experience. Other topics involve: preterm labor; signs of labor; true/false labor questions; and how to determine when to come to the hospital.
Labor and Delivery: Helpful tips to alleviate the anxieties associated with labor are discussed. Topics include: anesthesia in childbirth, the stages of childbirth, and medical interventions. Coping techniques and hospital procedures are also discussed.
Your Beautiful Baby: Caring for a newborn can be both exciting and exhausting! This class portion focuses on the post-partum recovery period and your amazing newborn. Hands-on demonstrations of diapering and bathing are paired with discussions of other care issues including crying, illness, and doctor visits.
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (Grades 7-12)
With the steady rise in the number of teenagers contracting sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), it is vital for young people to recognize the risks these diseases pose. This program presents up-to-date, detailed facts about common STDs, their symptoms and treatment. Because contraction of STDs can increase one’s vulnerability to HIV – the disease that causes AIDS – this class urges teens to take responsibility for their own health and stresses abstinence as the only sure method of preventing any STD.
Take Charge of Your Health (Grades 5-12)
This class presents information to help students or participants make healthier choices in their daily routines. The benefits of physical activity and exercise are strongly reinforced alongside current information regarding proper nutrition.
Testicular Self-Exams / TSE (Grades 11-12, Boys)
This class provides teenage males with general information about testicular cancer with an emphasis on prevention and detection. In addition to lecture and discussion, and educational video demonstrating proper testicular self-examination techniques will be shown.

Safety and Prevention
Basic First Aid Demonstration (Grades 6-12)
Participants will learn how to administer basic care for a person in need of first aid. Participants will also learn how to control bleeding, care for burns, respond to poisoning, immobilize joints and strained muscles, and access emergency contacts.
CPR Demonstration (Grades 6-12)
This class demonstrates the rescue breathing techniques and chest compressions for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Instructors will also demonstrate the Heimlich maneuver on a conscious choking victim, along with abdominal thrusts for one who is unconscious.
Fire Safety (Grades K-6)
This program teaches students or participants how to prevent fire, develop a fire escape route, follow fire safety procedures, and care for burns caused from fire, chemicals or electricity.
Home Alone (Grades 4-8)
Participants learn how to respond to potentially dangerous situations they may possibly encounter while home alone.
Safety in the Home (Grades K-6)
This class explores safety in and around the home, poisonings, calling for emergency assistance, and ways to prevent or respond to injuries or sudden illness.

Life Skills 
Communication Skills (Grades K-12)
Participants will explore positive ways to communicate, including effecting and reflective listening, behavior management, and building self-esteem.
Self-Esteem (Grades K-12)
Building self-esteem, as well as the positive and negative effects of high and low self-esteem will be discussed in this class. Participant activities include ways to improve self-esteem.
Stranger Danger (Grades K-6)
Children are taught how to be cautious and stay safe around people they don’t know by learning common traps used by kidnappers, and how to avoid them.
Time Management (Grades 6-12)
In this one-hour program, participants will learn to recognize time as a valuable resource that needs to be managed. The class focuses on setting priorities and goals, staying motivated, and recognizing “time robbers”.

Babysitting (Grades 5-8)
This program is offered in four, 2- hour sessions. Participants will explore the many responsibilities in babysitting including basic first aid techniques, abdominal thrusts and CPR for children and infants.
Careers in Health Care (Grades 5-12)
This class is designed to provide individuals with information needed to make an informed health-related career decision. Participants are encouraged to relate their personal interests to possible health career options. Discussion includes career descriptions, educational requirements and salary averages of our area.
