Overview:
The Comprehensive Medical Rehabilitation Unit provides quality, short-term inpatient nursing and rehabilitative care for patients with one of the following diagnoses:
- Amputations
- Arthritis
- Brain injuries
- Cardiac conditions
- Congenital conditions
- Joint replacements
- Neurological disorders
- Orthopedic injuries
- Spinal cord injuries
- Strokes.
The CMR Unit has earned the highest possible accreditation awarded by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). And, once again, in 2005, the CMR Unit has exceeded regional and national standards for patient outcomes. As a means of benchmarking patients’ levels of function, the CMR Unit relies on Functional Independence Measurement Scores (FIM Scores). These scores indicate how well patients progress during their stay. Not only do North Oaks CMR Unit patients make greater functional improvements when compared to similar patients across the nation, but also they make greater functional improvements in fewer days than patients in other rehabilitation facilities.
Admission Criteria:
- Ability to participate in at least 3 hours of therapy daily
- Desire and potential to benefit from rehabilitation
- Need for at least two types of therapy
- Approval by the Medical Director
Patient Satisfaction and Outcomes:
According to a national Press Ganey survey, the CMR Unit ranked in the 98th percentile as evaluated by its patients on their level of customer satisfaction.
Also of note is the fact that the unit, once again this year, has exceeded regional and national standards for patient outcomes. As a means of benchmarking patients' levels of function, the CMR Unit relies on Functional Independence Measurement Scores (FIM Scores). These scores indicate that North Oaks CMR Unit patients make greater functional improvements and make those improvements in fewer days than similar patients in other rehabilitation facilities across the nation.
Accreditations:
North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). Its CMR Unit is a recipient of the highest possible accreditation awarded by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and is the only CARF-accredited rehabilitation facility in a six-parish area, which includes Ascension, Livingston, St. Helena, St. John the Baptist, Tangipahoa and Washington, according to an August 2003 CARF report.
