Dr. Robert Peltier Appointed North Oaks Chief Medical Officer
Robert Peltier, MD, of Ponchatoula has retired from the internal medicine practice of Northshore Internal Medicine Associates to join the North Oaks Health System senior management team as Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Peltier succeeds James L. Nelson, MD, FACS, who retired from the position on March 30, 2007.

In his new role, Dr. Peltier will work closely with the North Oaks Medical Staff, Employees, Administration and Board of Commissioners of the health system in all aspects of operations.

Dr. Peltier’s affiliation with North Oaks medical staff began in 1998. No stranger to leadership roles in health care, he served as Chief of Staff for North Oaks Medical Center in 2006 and on the Community Advisory Committee for North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital from 2001 to 2003. In 2005, he was honored as North Oaks’ Physician of the Year for exceptional dedication to people, service, leadership, continuous improvement in patient care and community involvement. Professionally, he belongs to the American College of Physician Executives, International Society of Travel and Tropical Medicine and American College of Physicians. He also is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

A graduate of Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Medicine in Shreveport, Dr. Peltier completed his internship and residency at Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital in Baton Rouge through the LSU Internal Medicine Residency program. Dr. Peltier also earned a diploma in clinical tropical medicine through the Gorgas Course in Tropical Medicine in Lima, Peru.

At the local level, Dr. Peltier consistently volunteers to assist with the annual North Oaks Sports Medicine Physical Day, whereby free physical exams are provided to over 1,500 area junior high and high school athletes. He also works with Southeastern’s Intercollegiate Athletics program and is a member of the adjunct faculty for the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies’ Athletic Training Education Program. Additionally, he is a staff physician for Southeastern’s Vera W. Thomason Health Center.

In 2004, he traveled with other local physicians and medical students on a week-long medical mission trip to Peru. The group attended to the medical needs of people living in remote villages along the Rio Negro near Iquitos, Peru in the Amazon Basin.
