North Oaks Honored by Louisiana Society for Hospital Public Relations and Marketing
The marketing, business development, physician services and print and production efforts of North Oaks Health System were honored at the Twenty-sixth Annual Spring Conference and Pelican Awards hosted by the Louisiana Society for Hospital Public Relations and Marketing (LSHPRM) on Friday, April 27 at the Baton Rouge Marriott.

North Oaks was recognized with five Pelican Awards and two Certificates of Merit and was one of 22 health care organizations from across the state honored.

North Oaks earned recognition in the publications, writing, special events, outdoor and advertising categories.

Three North Oaks newsletters garnered Pelican Awards. Heartbeat, which is a bimonthly newsletter for North Oaks employees and volunteers, received a Pelican Award in the internal newsletter or magazine category. Physician Monthly, which is published for members of the North Oaks medical staff, also received a Pelican Award in the internal newsletter or magazine category. The Pulse, which is a monthly newsletter for medical office managers, received a Pelican Award in the electronic publications category.

In the writing category, North Oaks Market Strategist Ashley LaPlante was recognized with a Pelican Award for a football-themed flu prevention article written for North Oaks Occupational Health Services clientele.

Three projects associated with the opening of the North Oaks Orthopedic Clinic in Ponchatoula also were honored in the competition. The lifesize “When Bones Break, Muscles Pull and Joints Ache” window mural that is visible on the side of the clinic’s location at 530 West Pine Street in Ponchatoula received a Pelican Award in the outdoor category. A Certificate of Merit was earned for the associated “When Bones Break, Muscles Pull and Joints Ache” print ad series in the advertising category. Likewise, a Certificate of Merit was received in the special events category for the North Oaks Orthopedic Clinic’s “Meet the Teams” grand opening event hosted in August 2006. This event was unique in that it not only featured introductions of the clinic staff, but also introductions of the 2006 Ponchatoula High School football team and performances by the school’s spirit organizations. The Meet the Teams program also included a ribbon cutting, compliments of the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce, a strongest man and woman contest and clinic tours.

LSHPRM is an affiliate society of the Louisiana Hospital Association. Each year, LSHPRM sponsors the Pelican Awards to recognize and encourage improvement in quality, effectiveness and impact of hospital communications, public relations and marketing.
