
Marya J. Porter, MD, and Thuc B. Tran, MD, will join the North Oaks Clinic network as physicians of Magnolia Obstetrics & Gynecology effective July 9, 2007. Nurse Practitioner Keri G. Burkes, WHNP, also will be joining the practice.
Patients will be seen temporarily at North Oaks Family Medicine in Independence, located at 230 Masonic Drive, until their new clinic location in Hammond opens in mid-August 2007. Appointments will be available Monday through Wednesday and on Friday between 1 and 5 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Magnolia Obstetrics and Gynecology specializes in personalized health care for women from adolescence to menopause, including: pregnancy and postpartum care; gynecologic care; contraceptive counseling; treatment of abnormal Pap smears; and management of menopause and osteoporosis.
“Taking care of our loyal patients is what inspires us to practice medicine,” shares Dr. Porter. “That’s why we have made the decision to leave private practice and open Magnolia Obstetrics & Gynecology with North Oaks Health System as manager of our clinic operations.”
Dr. Tran continues, “We remain committed to our patients’ care throughout all the phases of their lives.”
A member of the North Oaks medical staff since 2006, Dr. Porter earned her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She completed both her internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology through the University of Maryland in Baltimore. Dr. Porter is a fellow of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a certified practitioner through the North American Menopause Society. Professionally, she belongs to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Jefferson Parish Medical Society and Louisiana State Medical Society.
Dr. Tran graduated from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She completed her internship and residency through Tulane University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. In her last year of residency, she was followed by The Learning Channel for a program focusing on labor and delivery care in the New Orleans area. Dr. Tran joined the North Oaks medical staff in 2005. Professionally, she belongs to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Medical Association and Southern Medical Association. She is board certified by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is currently serving as vice-chairman of the North Oaks Obstetrics/Gynecology and Pediatrics Steering Committee.
Certified Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner Keri G. Burkes is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University’s School of Nursing in Hammond. She earned her master’s degree in nursing through the University of South Alabama in Mobile. As a nurse practitioner with Magnolia Obstetrics and Gynecology, Burkes will provide direct patient care in collaboration with Drs. Porter and Tran.
