North Oaks to Offer Evening and Saturday Flu Shot Clinics

No Appointments Necessary for Added Convenience

The single best way to protect against influenza, or as it is more commonly known—the flu, is to get vaccinated each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In response, North Oaks is hosting a series of flu shot clinics this October in Hammond and Walker for participants, ages 9 to adult. Flu shot clinics do not require appointments as noted on the following dates and times at three North Oaks locations:

• Thursday, Oct. 6 from 5-7 p.m. at North Oaks Family Medicine, located at 1902 S. Morrison Blvd. in Hammond
  
  
• Saturday, Oct. 15 from 8 a.m.-12 noon at Northshore Internal Medicine Associates, located at 15770 Paul Vega, MD, Dr., Suite 108 in Hammond
  
  
• Saturday, Oct. 15 from 8 a.m.-12 noon at North Oaks Specialty Clinic, located at 28050 Walker S. Rd., Suite N in Walker.

This year’s vaccine offers protection against three flu viruses that CDC research suggests will be most common, an H3N3 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus that emerged in 2009. Because flu is easily spread from person-to-person and can lead to hospitalization and even death, everyone, 6 months of age and older, should get a flu vaccine—especially those age 65 and older, pregnant women, children younger than 2 years old, and people of any age who have chronic medical conditions, like diabetes, asthma, congestive heart failure or lung disease, to name only a few.

A $30 cash price will be offered at North Oaks Flu Shot Clinics, and cash, checks, credit cards and most insurance will be accepted. For those unable to attend one of the scheduled flu shot clinics, vaccines will be available by appointment at participating North Oaks Clinic locations during regular weekday hours of operation.
