Students Honored for Completion of North Oaks Dietetic Internship
North Oaks Health System recently hosted a reception to honor Brittany M. Taylor of Gretna, Elizabeth M. O’Meara of New Roads and Rebecca A. Markway of New Orleans for their successful completion of the health system’s Dietetic Internship program.
At the reception, Dietetic Internship Director Virginia Pelegrin awarded Taylor with the Carol Bertrand Award, and Nutritional Services Director Ann McDaniel presented her with the Mary Nelson Award. The Carol Bertrand Award was created in memory of the late Bertrand, who was a registered dietitian and graduate of North Oaks’ second Dietetic Internship class. The Mary Nelson Award is given to those who portray dedication to the dietetic profession, as well as academic excellence. This award is a tribute to Mary Nelson, a registered dietitian and local leader in the field of dietetics education. Markway received the Louisiana Dietetic Association’s Outstanding Dietetic Intern Award.
The internship is a required 1-year program for university graduates pursuing a career as a registered dietitian. The North Oaks program is accredited by the American Dietetic Association Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education.
