Cancer Support Group Reaches Out to Patients, Survivors and Caregivers
If you or a loved one has cancer, it may help to meet others who understand what you are going through.
The Tangipahoa Parish Cancer Support Group invites all patients, survivors and caregivers to attend their next meeting on Thursday, Sept. 20 from 2-3 p.m. to meet others living with cancer and provide mutual encouragement to one another.
Free meetings of this general cancer support group take place on the third Thursday of each month from 2-3 p.m. The meetings are hosted in the Conference Room of the Comprehensive Medical Rehabilitation Unit at North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital, located at 1900 South Morrison Boulevard in Hammond. Following the Sept. 20 gathering, the group will round out 2007 with monthly meetings scheduled on Oct. 18, Nov. 15 and Dec. 13.
Tangipahoa Parish Cancer Support Group meetings are open to all cancer patients and survivors, as well as their family members, caregivers and friends. Meetings are led by North Oaks Health System registered nurses and a licensed clinical social worker through a partnership with the American Cancer Society.
The meeting format is designed to encourage open discussion about the issues, topics and questions of most importance to participants, such as the management of treatment side effects.
Registration is not required. To learn more about the Tangipahoa Parish Cancer Support Group, please call North Oaks Community Education at (985) 230-5723.
