A.W.A.K.E. Support Group to Explore How Prescribed Sleep Aids Affect Sleep!
On Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 from 7-8 p.m., the North Oaks A.W.A.K.E. Support Group will host a free meeting for those persons with a sleeping disorder, along with their family and friends, to explore how prescribed sleep aids affect sleep.
The meeting will take place in Meeting Room C of the E. Brent Dufreche Conference Center, located within North Oaks Diagnostic Center in Hammond. Lauren L. Davis, MD, a Pulmonologist and North Oaks Sleep Disorder Specialist, will serve as guest speaker. Participants also are encouraged to bring their current Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) equipment with them for pressure checks.
Prescribed sleep medications affect individuals in different ways and are designed to treat specific types of insomnia. “This is why it is important to understand the nature of your particular sleep disorder before you begin taking a prescribed sleep aid,” Davis affirms.
Quarterly meetings of A.W.A.K.E., which stands for Alert, Well And Keeping Energetic, are designed to keep participants informed of new equipment as it becomes available, provide updates from national sleep disorder organizations and address questions or concerns with qualified personnel. A.W.A.K.E. is a nationally recognized support group sponsored by North Oaks Sleep Disorders Center, which is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Registration for North Oaks A.W.A.K.E. Support Group Meetings is not required. For more information, call the North Oaks Sleep Disorder Center at (985) 230-6083.
