Physician Panel Among Features of North Oaks Heart Health Services Open House on Thursday, August 17

A Physician Panel will explore current heart health topics, including post-Katrina stress and advances in diagnostic and treatment options, from 5:30-6 p.m. as part of the North Oaks Heart Health Services public Open House on Thursday, August 17 on the second floor of North Oaks Medical Center.

North Oaks Chief Medical Officer James L. Nelson, MD, FACS, will serve as master of ceremonies for the Physician Panel for which registration is recommended. Panel participants will include:

• North Oaks Heart Health Services Director Tammy Murphy, RN, LCEP
• Surgical Director and Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon Charles J. DiCorte, MD
• Medical Director and Cardiologist Patrick A. Delaney, MD, FACC
• Cardiologist Bruce J. Iteld, MD
• Cardiologist Douglas K. Mendoza, MD.

In addition to the physician panel, tours and a mini health fair will be conducted between 5:30-7 p.m. to showcase the recently completed $3.6 million expansion of the Heart Health Services’s facilities. Among upgrades to be highlighted through equipment demos are two new advanced Philips Catheterization Labs, a third Exercise Stress Lab, and the new outpatient Anticoagulation Management Clinic for the management of warfarin therapy. The mini health fair will feature blood pressure and heart rate checks, heart risk assessments, pulse oximetry screenings to determine blood-oxygen levels, and stations focusing on the heart-health related topics of diabetes, sleep disorders, nutrition and exercise.

Guests also will be treated to door prize drawings and refreshments.

North Oaks has offered heart health services for decades. It was 3 years ago, in 2003, that North Oaks grouped together all of its existing heart health services to create the comprehensive Heart Health Services, located within North Oaks Medical Center. The Heart Health Services provides a broad scope of heart health-related services -- from prevention and diagnosis to treatment, recovery and rehabilitation.
