What Is the Bone Densitometry Test?
Bone health is important throughout life, but as we age, we can begin to
lose bone density. This bone loss can cause bones to become weaker and
more fragile, and can lead to osteoporosis. Bone density scanning, also
called dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) or bone densitometry, is
an enhanced form of x-ray technology that is used to measure bone loss.
The results help doctors in determining how strong the bones are, the
risk of developing osteoporosis, and whether there has been any bone loss
over time. At North Oaks Diagnostic Center, our technologists use advanced
equipment to help measure your bone changes quickly and painlessly.
Results are provided to your doctor typically within 48 hours of your visit.
Studies are read by a board-certified radiologist with North Oaks Imaging
Associates, and are available to your doctor in a CD format upon request.
